There is a huge opportunity coming soon for women who want to get into football coaching in Brighton.

Girls’ football is growing fast. More young women and girls want to play, belong, compete, build confidence and be part of something positive. But there is still one major gap: we need more women coaching.

That is why VYD is proud to re-launch Life Goals – a practical and life-changing 4-week coaching course for women aged 16-30 who love football and want to step into leadership, even if they have never coached before. Funded by Sport England.

This is not about already having experience, it’s about bringing your passion, your character and your willingness to learn.

If you have ever thought, “I’d love to do something in football, but I don’t know where to start,” this is for you.

What You’ll Get

By the end of the course, every participant will leave with:

  • A fully funded coaching qualification
  • Real hands-on coaching experience
  • Increased confidence and leadership skills
  • Support into a coaching role with VYD or one of our network partners
  • A chance to make a genuine difference in your community

Rooted in Brighton and Open to Women Across the City.

We are welcoming women from all over Brighton and beyond, with a special focus on Whitehawk, where our growing girls’ football programme is based at the Crew Club Hawks.

Every Tuesday afternoon, we run completely free football sessions for local girls at the Crew Club. We have already welcomed 12 regular players, provided free boots, and created a space where girls can be active, build friendships and feel part of a team.

The need is real.

Many of the girls attending were doing little or no regular exercise before joining us. Cost remains one of the biggest barriers stopping young people from accessing sport. We are working to change that – and we need more women to help lead the way.

Why Women Coaches Matter

Too many girls leave sport in their teenage years. Too many feel judged, overlooked or disconnected. A great coach can change that, someone who understands, listens and creates a space where girls feel welcome, valued and confident.

That is why female-led coaching matters so much. Representation and relationships matter. The women who step forward now could inspire girls for years to come.

Learn from Chris Day

The course will be led by Chris Day, an experienced and respected coach who knows how to bring the best out of people. Chris is a UEFA A Football / UEFA B Futsal coach and Head of Women’s Football at Eastbourne Borough FC, Lead Football Coach at Reigate Grammar School as well as an Elite 1 to 1 Coach.

Chris will guide participants through every step of the journey with energy, honesty and real expertise. His sessions are known for being practical, engaging and built around people, not just theory.

He understands that great coaches are not made by shouting instructions from the sidelines. They are built through trust, communication, confidence and consistency. Chris will help you develop all of that.

How It Works

Starting every Tuesday in June:

  • Hour One: On the pitch, coaching our girls’ football session
  • Hour Two: In the classroom, learning how to plan sessions, build positive relationships and create welcoming environments where players thrive

This is learning by doing with support every step of the way.
