VYD Youth

VYD Youth provides youth football infrastructure across East Brighton in Sussex. We use our experience in developing young people and football clubs for the marginalised in society.

We form a committee structure, bring through core values and develop players and give opportunities to those that might not otherwise have them.

VYD is passionate about using our experience in setting up youth football infrastructure and developing communities of youth players. Having been the driving force behind setting up Montpelier Villa FC in Brighton, we collaborated with the Crew Club in Whitehawk to set up Crew Club Hawks and East Brighton Trust  to develop Moulsecoomb & Bevendean FC.

What’s involved

We create the solid, tried and tested football infrastructure to build the foundations and we work with local community groups and schools to recruit and build the project. It’s essential that this is co-designed with the local community as they know the people and area better than anyone and the club needs to represent the community and the values that represent their home.

Who’s it for?

Young people who might not have the opportunities that more affluent communities do. We build and develop football club infrastructure and build core values within the club identity whilst creating football sessions that focus on fun and player development over short-term results.

The main thing to engineer with youth football clubs is sustainability. A lot of clubs sprout up and then fold, so it’s essential to build from the ground up and work closely with local people to develop them alongside the teams and to bring through a cohort of local people to coach and develop the club further.

Outcomes

Building social connections, developing a lifelong love of the game of football, bringing communities together, and developing local people to take control of their community football club.

Where have we delivered?
